Situated Portrait

[NL] [FR] [SP]

Situated Portrait aims to make visible trees’ perspectives on their lives, their symbioses and the world, giving visitors a different perspective on the more-than-human life of a natural area. Through interviews, local history, sensors, data and algorithms, Situated Portrait aims to research real-time stories that make tangible the ecological, spiritual, historical and day-to-day dimensions of a tree’s life. The research is conducted by artists An Mertens, Gijs de Heij and Doriane Timmermans, a series of algorithms and the trees and plants of the Sonian Forest, the Kalmthoutse Heide, De Liereman and Park Hoge Kempen.

This research will work towards a prototype of a Situated Portrait in several steps during four residencies.

In collaboration with Constant, Kunstencentrum Jester, GC Wabo, Emile Van Dorenmuseum, Leefmilieu Brussel, De Vroente (Kalmthoutse Heide), Bezoekerscentrum De Liereman.
